Crockers paintings are quintessentially English in both their eccentricity and formal grandeur. He combines unseen or mysterious events and unexpected incongruous figures with panoramic expanses of sky and countryside. Whilst drawing on the great tradition of English landscape painting, Crockers work is also portentous, creating a sense of drama and emotional tension which is thoroughly of our age. Crocker graduated
from Goldsmiths in 1985 and has since shown extensively in Britain
as well as in the US; including Seattle, Miami and a solo show
in New York. His work is held in collections in Europe, East
Asia and Australia. Crocker is fascinated by the formal, often
manipulated, quality of the English landscape, whether it be the West Country,
the North Norfolk Coast, or his native North Yorkshire. 1982 - 1982 Cleveland
