The title of Emmanuel Cooper’s third solo exhibition at the Beaux
Arts-Bath defines the essential elements of his work. His Japanese
influenced forms are delicate and highly balanced. Wide-brimmed dishes,
seemingly simple pots and open bowls all rise and float above their bases.
Textures are often complex and organic with volcanic surfaces pitted with
craters or covered in limpet-like trails on seashore rocks. Colours are
of the city, traffic light red or vivid neon yellows and pinks contrasted
against pavement greys. These are exquisite objects crafted by a master.
Emmanuel Cooper is a distinguished working potter, Editor of Ceramic
Review and Visiting Professor, Ceramic and Glass, at the Royal College of
Art. |
