Mark Johnston

Mark Johnston was born in the North East of England, and spent his childhood by the sea and in the countryside. Painting took him to the Lake District and then to Brighton University. After three years he graduated with a B.A. [HONS] degree in Painting and was awarded The Sussex Painting Prize. For the next two years he travelled, lived and painted in Greece, Barcelona and Andalucia, before returning to his present studio in Brighton.

Landscape offers me huge inspiration, with seasonal change as well as weather movement around me. The trick is to stay out as long as possible, walking, sketching and absorbing the colour, light, scale, space, and mood. When I'm painting I rediscover these senses.'
