Grace
O’Connor’s work is essentially realistic. The heightened intensity of
light, amid the gentle familiarity of the landscapes and architecture, hint
at the discovery of new worlds. Hushed
and dream-like, her figures tread through environments at once recognisable,
yet disquietingly still. In the
ordinariness of these frozen, secluded moments, the natural surroundings are
a quiet, brooding presence. Originally
from Connecticut, Grace has been based in London since 1992, and attended
the Royal Academy between 1996 and 1999.
She won the Hunting Group Young Artist of the Year award in 1994, and
the Royal Overseas League Travel Prize in 1998.
She has exhibited at numerous galleries and Art Fairs in the U.S. and
London since then. 2004 sees
her first solo exhibition with Beaux Arts. |
