Kate Sherman
About
Kate lives and works in Sussex.
Her paintings, all of which are oil on panel, originate from photographs that Kate has taken of her surrounding landscapes. The photographic source is important in her work in capturing a reflection of memory- the distance between past and present. Kate’s paintings are imbued with feelings and suggestions of experience, longing and melancholy. The warm lights glowing out from windows in darkness, the restrained palette, and the sparsely populated landscapes are reminiscent of Edward Hopper yet with Kate’s characteristic Northern light colours- soft, cold blues and whites, chalky pinks and greys.
