Caroline Attan
Absorbed into a dense mandala mosaic, patterned and folded shapes orbit concentric hand written lines of poetry. The mainly Latin American poetry is selected from the likes of Pablo Neruda and Octavio Paz, and the colour schemes are reminiscent of the patterned textiles of Mexico or Peru.
Looking at one of Caroline’s pieces is an immersive, mesmeric and at times psychedelic experience, as coloured folded forms simultaneously harmonise and clash with the written language. The Smaller works allow for quieter contemplation with patterns mimicking ancient writing forms. Circular, mono-tone compositions use only black, white, cream and other singular colours, creating a much calmer atmosphere.
