Katharina Klug was born in Austria, and grew up in and around her mother’s pottery, beginning her life-long fascination with ceramics. She now lives and works in Cambridge. Her work has been selected for the Rising Stars award at the New Ashgate Gallery, being shortlisted in 2020, and the Craft and Design Selected Maker Awards, for which she won a Silver Award (Ceramics) in 2013.
Katharina plays with proportion and detail whilst attempting to maintain perfection in form. She draws onto the clay using crayons, and the glazes create contrast in each individual piece; inside vs. outside; colour vs. monochrome; gloss vs. matt. Each glaze is a mix of her own devising, the colours created from oxides such as copper and cobalt.
